The SIA licence fee changed in 2026 when a rebate ended, so older figures you may see online can be out of date. Here is what the official guidance says today.
The short version: one SIA licence costs £204 (from 1 April 2026), for both new applications and renewals. Each extra licence on the same application costs £102.
The licence fee
The fee is £204 for a licence, effective from 1 April 2026. The renewal fee is the same. The £20 rebate that had applied before ended on that date.
Applying for more than one licence
If you apply for more than one licence in the same application, the first costs £204 and each additional licence costs £102 (50% off). Since 1 June 2026 the discount only applies within the same application, so it is worth applying for everything you need at once. The vehicle immobiliser licence (Northern Ireland only) always costs £204 and is not discounted.
Things to know before you pay
- The fee is non-refundable.
- You must pay in full before the SIA starts processing. It does not accept instalments or payment after a decision.
- Your employer can pay the fee or submit the application for you, but only if they are an SIA approved contractor and you link your online account with theirs. You can decline the link.
What the fee does not include
The £204 covers the licence only. You also pay separately for your licence-linked training, your first aid qualification where one is required, and your ID documents if you need any translated. Training prices vary between providers, so compare them on the Praesova training marketplace.
How long you get for the money
Most licences last three years, so £204 works out at £68 a year. When you renew early, any time left on your current licence is added to the new one.
